Your browser, your choices

MWK remembers a few things to make your next visit feel more like yours. Here’s what is stored and how to clear it.

Effective

What MWK remembers

The current website uses local storage for your saved story list, followed categories and topics, hidden publishers, country and news language preferences, and temperature unit. Local storage stays in your browser and is different from a cookie that is automatically attached to web requests.

When you choose a news country or language, a preference cookie remembers that choice for up to one year so your next page opens in the selected edition. It contains only those settings. Saved stories and interests are not included. Returning both choices to automatic removes this cookie.

These choices are stored under the key mwk.preferences.v1. They help personalize the current browser; they do not create an account or sync between your devices. Selected settings, such as a country or search filter, can still be used in requests to display the content you ask for.

Cookies & other websites

When enabled, Google Analytics can set first-party cookies to measure visits, page views, and interactions with MWK. Analytics starts immediately with notice and an opt-out, unless your location requires an acceptance under our regional settings, you have rejected it, or you have enabled Global Privacy Control. Our acceptance settings cover the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Turkey, North Macedonia, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Quebec in Canada, and Åland, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion and Saint Martin. India moves to acceptance on 13 May 2027. Analytics also stays off when your country is unknown, or when a Canadian province cannot be determined. Changing your news country does not change this privacy setting. Your analytics choice is stored in a necessary cookie for up to six months. Infrastructure used to deliver and protect the site may process technical request information or use necessary security mechanisms.

Images served directly by publishers, publisher icons, and the GeoJS location fallback involve requests to outside hosts. Some photographs are instead resized and delivered through MWK’s Cloudflare service. Your browser’s cookie and tracking settings govern how outside hosts can use browser storage. Blocking third-party cookies does not by itself prevent a host from receiving your IP address when an image or other resource loads.

Publisher sites you open have their own cookie practices. See our Privacy Policy for more about information used by MWK and its providers.

Manage your MWK data

Use Preferences on the homepage to change your interests, country, hidden publishers, and temperature unit. To start over, clear the saved story list and preferences below. This affects this browser on this MWK site only.

This does not delete emails you have sent us, records held by service providers, or data stored by independent publisher websites. For a personal-information request, visit our privacy rights section.

Browser settings

You can also delete site data, block storage, and manage cookies in your browser settings. If storage is blocked or cleared, MWK may no longer remember your saved stories and choices. Private-browsing sessions generally keep less persistent history, but do not hide your IP address from websites you contact.

Google provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Use Analytics choices in the footer to disable analytics and remove its accessible cookies from this site. Clearing saved stories and content preferences is a separate action and does not change your analytics choice. You can also remove cookies through your browser settings.
