Your privacy, clearly explained

This policy describes the current MWK website: what information is used, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.

Effective

1. Who we are

MWK Inc. operates MWK and is responsible for the personal information it processes for this service. This policy covers our website and communications with us. It does not cover independent publishers or other websites you reach through our links.

Privacy questions and rights requests can be directed to privacy@mwk.com.

2. Information used by the website

  • Browser preferences. Saved story identifiers, followed categories and topics, hidden publishers, an optional country selection, and temperature units are stored in your browser. The current website does not synchronize these preferences to an MWK user account.
  • Page and service requests. Our hosting and delivery providers process technical information needed to serve requests, such as an IP address, browser details, requested URL, and request time. URLs can include a search query, a country or category selection, or approximate coordinates used for weather.
  • Approximate location. We use a country, city, and rounded coordinates inferred from your connection to choose an edition and show weather. We do not ask the browser for GPS permission. An inferred city can be inaccurate.
  • Messages you send. If you contact us, we process the contact details, message, and attachments you provide to respond and manage the request.

The current website does not offer user accounts or collect payment details. We use Google Analytics to understand visits, page views, and interactions such as scrolling and opening publisher links. Analytics starts automatically with notice and an opt-out, except in locations where our regional settings require your acceptance first. We determine this from your connection location, independently of the news edition you choose. If we cannot determine the applicable location, analytics stays off without an automatic popup. Use Analytics choices in the footer to accept or reject analytics at any time. We honor Global Privacy Control by disabling analytics. Advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled in our tag. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the current service.

When analytics is enabled, information sent to Google includes a browser-generated cookie identifier, page addresses and titles, referring pages, interaction events, browser and device details, and approximate location. We use this information to measure how MWK is used and improve the service. We do not supply an MWK account identifier. Google processes this information for our analytics service; optional account data-sharing settings are disabled. See how Google processes information from sites that use its services.

3. Why information is used

We use information to deliver pages and forecasts, honor your preferences, provide relevant editions, respond to inquiries, investigate errors and abuse, protect the service, and meet legal obligations.

Where a legal basis is required, we rely on providing a service you request, legitimate interests in operating and securing the website and responding to correspondence, applicable legal obligations, or consent where required. You can withdraw consent for processing based on consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

4. Location & weather

Cloudflare can supply an approximate location from your connection. When adequate city information is unavailable, the browser can request a lookup from GeoJS. GeoJS receives your IP address for that request; MWK’s location code retains only the city, country, and approximate coordinates, not the IP field returned by that lookup.

Coordinates used by the website are rounded to one decimal place. They are sent through MWK’s weather service to obtain a forecast from MET Norway. This forecast request does not forward your browser’s IP address to MET Norway. Location results are temporarily held in memory; hosting providers may separately process request information.

You can choose a different country edition in Preferences. This changes news selection; it does not disable location lookup or change the detected weather city.

5. Service providers & external content

We use service providers for hosting, delivery, security, content processing, and communications. Our infrastructure includes Cloudflare, Railway, and Supabase. The current news supplier is NewsAPI.ai. We do not send browser-saved story lists or personal email inquiries to the news supplier to select articles.

MWK delivers resized versions of some feed-supplied photographs through Cloudflare to reduce download size. For those images, our delivery service fetches the original without forwarding your browser’s IP address to its host. Other photographs, fallback images, and publisher icons load directly from external hosts, which receive your IP address and ordinary request information even if you do not click a story. Direct image requests omit the referring-page header. External hosts may apply their own privacy practices.

If you open an article, you leave MWK and interact with the publisher directly. We may also disclose information when legally required, to protect rights and security, or in connection with a lawful corporate transaction, subject to applicable protections.

6. Storage, retention & security

Browser preferences remain until you clear them, the browser removes them, or the storage format changes. Use the controls on our Cookies & choices page to remove MWK’s saved story list and preferences from this browser.

For correspondence, security information, and other records, retention depends on the purpose: resolving the request, operating and protecting the service, and meeting applicable legal or recordkeeping obligations. Information is not intended to be retained indefinitely once those needs end. Provider logs and backups may have separate retention schedules.

Google Analytics user and event data retention is set to 14 months. The user-data retention period resets when a visitor returns. Standard aggregate reports have separate retention behavior. Analytics cookies can remain in your browser according to Google’s cookie settings; you can remove them using Analytics choices or your browser’s controls.

We use technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no online service or storage method can guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

7. International processing

MWK and its providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Privacy laws can differ between those countries. Where applicable law restricts an international transfer, the required transfer mechanism or safeguard must apply. Contact us for information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your request.

8. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live and the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; or complain to a relevant privacy regulator. Some rights have exceptions, and we may need proportionate information to verify a request.

Send requests to privacy@mwk.com. Tell us the right you want to exercise and enough information to locate the relevant records. You do not need to send identity documents with your initial message. Where required, an authorized representative may act for you. We will handle requests within the time required by applicable law and will not discriminate for exercising a protected right.

We cannot remotely remove local browser preferences from your device. The controls on this website and your browser’s site-data settings let you do that directly.

9. Children

MWK is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and address it. Additional protections under applicable local law still apply.

10. Policy changes

We will update this policy when our practices change and identify the effective date. Where a change requires notice, consent, or another step under applicable law, we will take that step before relying on the change.
